Truck drivers cannot afford diesel
When is the trucking industry going to get loud and speak out about the speculators and what they are doing to the world? What do you think will help reduce fuel consumption in big rigs? What will be the first invention for over the road tractor trailers that will reduce diesel consumption the most? Will it be a hybrid semi? Will it be a modification to the existing diesel engine?
Who manufacturers the most fuel efficient trucks? How much do the trucks in European countries differ from those in North America in terms of fuel efficiency?
Keep us informed. Tell us what is happening out there on the open road.

You'd need a whole lot of battery to pull a hundred thousand pounds of rig. That battery will take a cut out of the freight. More likely cars rely more on hybrid and plug in electric to cut fuel usage. Trucks maybe on compressed natural gas. CNG tanks will be larger, or fuel stops more frequent. More long distance rail, and some Interstate road improvements (would another another Chicago bypass outside the 394/80/94 corridor help?)
